In Your Footstep
Part 4
I was taking one of my walks, trying to clear my head,
then I saw something I hadn’t expected to see. It was JC, in typical
fashion, kissing a girl. It wasn’t unheard of by any means, but
the fact that it was Ann, worried me. I approach them slowly.
“ I don’t mean to be rude, but what on earth are you doing?”
I asked. They both stopped and turned to look at me. They clearly hadn’t
expected anyone to see them. “We were just...um.” JC stuttered.
“If I am not mistaken you were kissing.” I said trying to
help him find his words. “Yeah.” JC said almost ashamed.
“Please don’t tell the others.” Ann begged. “I
won’t, it‘s not my place, but you should.” I replied.
“I better go, I’ll see you guys around.” Ann said
and then ran off. I could tell this wasn’t normal for her.
I stood there waiting for JC to turn his attention from her butt back
to me. “Is this serious?” I asked cross my arms. He looked
up at me, he appeared to be thinking about it. “I think it might
be.” He said, and that wasn’t normal for JC. “You
do realize that if you break her heart, Abbey and Scott will never talk
to you again.” I reminded him. “I know, that’s why
it’s a secret. You can’t tell them.” He begged. “If
you break her heart, she just might tell them.” I said finally
letting my arms fall free.
“I know, this is so confusing.” He said. I could tell he
wasn’t sure about this. “Once a guy asked me about love,
and I told him that the right girl is always worth it, just make sure
you got the right girl.” I said recalling my talk with Scott.
JC was my friend too and I wanted to help him. “How do you know
when you got the right girl?” JC asked in similar fashion. I laughed
it was my conversation with Scott all over again. “He asked that
too, and I told him I didn’t know anything about the right girl,
I hadn’t found her yet. But he did, he says that the right girl
completes you and you can see your world in her eyes. I hope that helps.”
I said. “It does thanks.
When did you get so good at this love stuff?” JC
asked. “I’m not sure. But you should go find Ann, before
that poor girl decides your not worth it.” I said.
JC smiled at me and then ran to go find her. I had no idea what I was
getting into. I was getting good at helping other with their loves lives
while mine remained stagnant. I just shook my head and turn to finish
my walk. I finally came across Abbey, Roxy and Ann. They were talking
when I approached them. “Hey, J.” Abbey said happy to see
me. Ann seemed tense but I just smiled. “You ladies having fun?”
I asked.
“Not really, it’s kind of boring around here.”
Roxy explained. “Really I think there it a lot going on around
here.” I laughed. “No there isn’t, it’s boring.”
Ann snapped, I think she thought I was going to rat her out to her friends.
“I think JC is looking for you.” I said, I had a feeling
JC had not talked to her recently. “He is?” She questioned.
“Really why would he be looking for Ann?” Abbey asked. “Not
sure, I think he borrowed something from her or something like that.”
I lied. “Yeah, he did I better go get it.” Ann said and
then left, she was getting good at that.
“So, how are you two?” I asked sweetly. “We are doing
great, your such a good friend. I can’t thank you enough for helping
me to realize my love for Scott.” Abbey said. “Glad too
help, what about you Roxy?” I asked looked over at the other woman.
“Hey, I don’t need any match making thank you. I’m
fine.” Roxy replied. “Yes, you are.” I said trying
to make her blush. It never worked though that girl wasn’t ashamed
of anything.
“Go use your cheesy pick up lines on some other girl.” Roxy
laughed. “Yeah, it was cheesy wasn’t it? I guess I need
to work on that.” I said, smiling sexily at both of them. “You’re
so much cuter when you don’t talk.” Abbey joked. “Yeah,
next time you meet a girl, just pretend your mute.” Roxy added.
“You think that would work?” I asked. “Yeah, you are
really hot, but you should just stick to singing.” Roxy explained.
“Maybe I could take lessons, would you teach me to be a smooth
talker?” I asked. “I’m afraid we’re not very
good at it either you should ask one of your friends, maybe JC.”
Abbey said. I thought for a minute. “JC, you think he’s
a charmer?” I asked. “JC knows what to say around a girl,
he could win over any body.” Roxy said noticing the smirk on my
face. “What are you up to, Mr. Timberlake?” She added. “I
can’t say, I promised I wouldn’t.” I teased.
“You can’t say that to girl ant expect them to leave it
at that.” Abbey snapped. “Well you could force me to tell
you, then I could just tell them that you tortured me. But you would
have to catch me first.” I said then took off running. They chased
after me, I figured if nothing else I would at least give them something
to do.
I was running down the main hallway when I heard knocking. “Hello?”
I asked. “Justin open the door.” Joey yelled beating on
the door to our game room. I walked over to it. “Why can’t
you?” I asked confused. “Abbey and Chris put Vaseline on
the door knob I can’t turn it.” Joey explained. I had to
laugh those two were trouble alright. I opened the door and Joey stepped
out propping the door open. “I am going to kill those two”
Joey said in a mock angry tone as he whipped his hands on his shirt.
“Abbey said she was bored.” I said shrugging my shoulders.
I was just glad it was Joey and not me who went in there and got stuck.
Just then Abbey came around the corner, she had still been chasing me.
She took one look at Joey and started laughing, he had that stuff all
over his shirt, she had to have known what had happened.
“I’m going to kill you and then Chris.” Joey yelled
pointing at her. “I’ll torture you later, Justin. I have
to go.” She yelled and then ran back the way she had come. Joey
was quick to go after her yelling obscenities at her, which echoed down
the hall. I heard a familiar chuckle once Joey was gone.
“I wouldn’t laugh he’s coming after you next.”
I said. Chris stepped out into the open. “Are you kidding, it’s
going to take him awhile to catch Abbey, and then he’ll be too
tried to hurt me.” Chris explained. I walked into our game room
and turned just in time to see Chris slam the door shut. I ran over
to it and instantly tried the knob only to have my hand coated with
that greasy stuff.
“Chris you jerk, let me out.” I yelled beating on the door.
“Are you kidding this prank was a too for one.” Chris laughed.
“I’m going to kill you.” I yelled. “First you
have to get out. See you later Justin.” Chris said. I could hear
him whistling as he walked down the hall. “Kirkpatrick, this isn’t
funny.” I yelled one last time.
I sat down and entertained myself, it was a good half hour before Lance
walked in. As soon as I saw him I jumped up and ran over to the door.
“Don’t close that.” I yelled. “Why not?”
Lance asked confused. I quickly explained to him what they had done
then left to go find Chris.
I finally found him talking to Scott and Danny. Luckily he had his back
to me and I had him in a head lock before he knew what was going on.
“I am going to beat you.” I yelled, rubbing my first into
his head. “You’re going to make my hair fall out.”
Chris wined trying to break free, but the older man was no match for
me. “You got bigger things to worry about old man.” I said.
“It was Abbey’s idea.” Chris squealed. “Yeah,
but your the one who shut the door on me, plus I’m sure Joey’s
got Abbey by now.” I explained.
I finally let go of him. “This means war, Kirkpatrick.”
I said poking him in the chest. “Bring it on.” Chris said.
“You better run.” I said. “Why?” Chris asked.
“Here comes Joey.” I said looking past him at the muscular
man running toward us. “Bye.” Chris said and then ran past
me. “You are so dead.” Joey snapped pushing past us. Scott
and Danny couldn’t help but laugh.
“Do we even want to know?” Scott asked. “It’s
a long story, but in involves your girlfriend, who by the way, I am
going to beat.” I explained. “Just don’t kill her,
I need her.” Scott said. “Don’t worry I won’t
kill her just severely injure.” I said.
It wasn’t long before Abbey came walking to us, I could help but
notice that she was walking funny. Scott wrapped his arm around her
and kissed her on the fore head. “Joey spanked me.” She
wined. “Well form what I hear you deserved it.” Scott said.
“That’s beside the point, I didn’t stand a chance.
He’s a big guy.” Abbey explained. “I got a bone to
pick with you too. Chris got me stuck in our game room, he said it was
your idea.” I said. “Well I was going to torture you for
information, so lets just call it truce.” Abbey said holding her
hand out. “That’s fair.” I said shaking her hand.
“What kind of information?” Danny asked. “I can’t
say I am sworn to secrecy.” I explained. “That’s cool,
your a good friend like that.” Scott said. Joey walked up to us,
he was clearly out of breathe. “Did you get him?” Danny
asked. “Yeah, I got him.” Joey said putting his hands on
his hips. “You didn’t kill him did you , I mean we have
a show to do.” I asked. “No, but he should be able to sing
a little higher than normal.” Joey said. “What did you do?”
Abbey asked. “I picked him up by his underwear and then dropped
him on the floor.” Joey explained.
“My butt hurts.” Abbey wined. “And I spent an hour
trying to get out of our game room.” Joey explained. “You
have to admit, it was funny.” Abbey said. “Yeah, it was
you got me good.” Joey said. “They got me too.” I
said, then told him what Chris had done to me. We all laughed as Chris
approached us still picking his underwear out of his crack. “You
okay?” I asked. “I need to learn to run faster.” Chris
explained. We had a lot of good times on that tour.
A few days passed, Chris and Abbey finally recovered from Joey’s
assault. I’d like to tell you that Joey scared them so much that
they stopped with the pranks, but that was not the case. They just didn’t
target Joey as much.
“Hey Justin can I talk to you?” Scott asked. I could tell
by the tone of his voice this was serious. “Sure, what do you
need?” I asked as he pulled me off to the side. “I need
you opinion again.” He said reaching into his pocket. He pulled
out a tiny black box. “I bought this yesterday, do you think I
should?” He asked showing me the elegant diamond engagement ring.
I was it awe by it, it was pretty, but I hadn’t realized how serious
things had gotten between them.
“Should I ask Abbey to marry me?” He repeated. I looked
up at him. “This is serious are you sure your ready for it?”
I asked. “I think I’m ready, I mean I love her and I want
to be with her forever. I can’t stand the thought of being with
out her.” He explained. “Lance is going to kill you, you
know.” I said, bring him back to the reality of it all. “I
don’t care about Lance, I care about Abbey. Do you think she’ll
say yes?” Scott asked.
“Of course she would, why wouldn’t she?” I asked trying
to reassure him. “Look, I promised Lance, I wouldn’t get
in the middle again, but if she is the right girl and she is worth it,
then why not make her your wife.” I said knowing it would get
back to Lance, but if they were in love why not get married, it made
sense to me.
“When are you going to do it?” I asked. “The night
of our last show, I’m going to do it right out there on that stage,
so everyone knows how serious I am.” Scott said passionately.
Scott was a hopeless romantic and I wasn’t sure how Abbey or Lance
would take it, but I didn’t want to tell him that.
