In Your Footstep

Part 3

We were getting ready for the show which was only days away at this point. I liked to walked around the venue by myself, to help clear my mind, and that’s what I was doing when Abbey ran up to me. “You lost?” She asked smiling at me like she always did. “No, just thinking.” I replied sticking my hands in my pockets. “About what?” She asked locking arms with me. She was such a flirt. “Just stuff, what are you up to?” I asked changing the topic. I wasn’t much for talking about my personal life, I guess I was too afraid something would get out into the press.

“It feels right.” She said softly. I looked at her confused for a minute. “Oh, it does? What are you going to do about it?” I asked finally realizing what she was talking about. “I am going to tell him, you’re his friend, do you think he likes me?” She asked resting her head against me as we walked along. “I think he does, I just don’t know if he’ll admit it, he thinks you’re just friends, good friends.” I said. “We’re are, but isn’t that how good relationships start?” She asked. “No, that is how great relationships start.” I said realizing how lucky she was.

“Thanks J, I’ll let you know how it goes. I’m going to tell him soon.” Abbey said then kissed me on the cheek before running off. I loved that girl, but for once it wasn’t that kind of love, she was like the little sister I never had. I smiled and then went to go find my friends, I’m sure there was something I was suppose to be doing.

Before I reached the dressing room, I bumped into Scott. “Hey, you got a minute?” He asked. “Sure, what’s on your mind?” I asked, knowing the others were probably waiting for me, but I didn’t care. “I need your advice.” Scott said sounding not so sure about something. “Ask away.” I said crossing my arms.

“It’s about a girl. She’s absolutely amazing. I wanted to ask her out, but I was wandering, you know with our recent success, if it was such a good idea?” Scoot asked sincerely. “It’s hard to be famous but you can’t put your love life on hold, just don’t be shocked when the press gets a hold of it.” I explained. “Would it be worth it though?” He asked. I thought for a minute, I had a good idea who he was talking about. “The right girl is always worth it. Just make sure it’s the right girl.” I said patting him on the shoulder.

“Okay, that makes sense, but how do I know if it’s the right girl?” He asked. I laughed and he looked at me funny. “I can’t help you there, I obviously haven’t found her yet. But if you figure it out let me know.” I said, and I meant it. I could get almost any girl I wanted but I still hadn’t found the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

“Justin, get in here already. We have a ton of stuff to do.” Lance snapped sticking his head out the door of our dressing room. “I have to go, good luck with that though.” I said and than ran off to get some work done.

The day of the concert finally arrived. We were at the venue wasting time until the show started. I was in our game room playing video games with Chris. I was wining when Lance came in and smacked me on the back of the head. “What was that for?” I asked throwing the controller down. I looked up at Lance, who was clearly upset.

“You’re lucky, Joey talked me out of killing you.” Lance snapped. “What the hell did I do.” I asked rubbing the back of my head. “Abbey and Scott, you idiot.” Lance said walking around the room franticly. “Oh.” I said not too sure what to say at this point. “What did you do, dude?” Chris asked, he could tell I had really pissed off Lance. I opened my mouth to speak but Lance beat me to it.

“I’ll tell you what he did, I just caught Abbey and Scott kissing. When I asked them what they were doing, they told me they were in love. They both added that it was Justin’s idea.” Lance snapped. “They both asked me for my advice, and I told them what I thought.” I replied knowing it would just make him madder. “The press is going to have a hay day with this.” Lance said putting his hand on his forehead.

“Take it easy, they were in love before Justin talked to them, they would have done it any way. I for one support them.” Chris said. I was glad at least he was on my side. “Shut up, Chris. This is bad, Justin you have to tell them it was a bad idea.” Lance said. “No, I won’t do that Lance, I think it’s a great idea and I won’t lie to them. They are my friends.” I snapped getting up from the couch and walking over to him.

“This could ruin their career.” Lance yelled. “But, they’re happy and that’s more than I can say for any one of us.” I said getting in his face. He was silent as he searched my eyes for something. “You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t give all of this up for the perfect girl, your soul mate. That’s what they have and their isn’t a person on this planet that could convince they otherwise.” I said. Lance just stepped back and looked at me, I was passionate about this and he knew better than to challenge me. I was stubborn and I knew I was right about this, I wasn’t going to let him make me think I was wrong.

“Chris, help me out here.” Lance wined. “Sorry, buddy. But I’d have agree with J on this one.” Chris said trying to stay out of it. “Try just being their manager and not their match maker.” I yelled putting my finger in his face. He flinched, I didn’t realize who fierce I must have seemed. I think he was afraid I was going to hit him, I was young and muscular, I had to think of how much damage I could have caused had we gotten into a fight.

“I am not going to fight with you, but you need to stay out of the middle of these things. It’s really not your place.” Lance said finally calming down. I never meant to scare him, but it worked. “They put me in the middle, but I can’t say I mind. Lance they love each other and want to be together. You can’t blame me for wanting two of my friends to be happy, and if that means ruining their career then so be it.” I said backing away from him. I went back to the couch and sat down. I heard Lance leave, he slammed the door behind him. I picked up the controller and started the game over without saying a word.

“You were right, you did screw Lance.” Chris said before resuming our game. “It isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last.” I said and boy was I right. After finally beating Chris I got up. “I have to go find them before Lance brain washes them.” I said heading for the door. “Wait I’m going with you.” Chris said joining me at the door. We both left and went straight to their dressing room.

When we walked in Scott was sitting on the couch with Abbey on his lap. They were just looking lovingly into each others eyes. “Hey, J. Thanks you so much for the advice.” Scott said turning his attention from Abbey. “Yeah, J your pretty good at this love thing, why don’t you have a girl?” Abbey asked. “Well, unlike you two, I haven’t found the right girl yet, but I am still hopeful.” I explained. “Congratulations you two, you make a cute couple.” Chris said coming up behind me.

I moved to let him in. “I knew it was just a matter of time.” Ann said with a big smile. “Then why didn’t you say anything?” Abbey asked. “You know me, it’s not my place.” Ann replied shrugging her shoulders. “The only thing you two needed was a noisy pop star friend.” I laughed.

“Oh, and don’t worry about Lance, Justin took care of him.” Chris added. “What did you say to him?” Roxy asked looking up from her magazine. “A bunch of stuff, about love and what happened.” I said not wanting to relive the whole sappy conversation. “There was almost a fist fight.” Chris said. I could have hit him, he was getting on my nerves. “I hope we didn’t hurt your relationship with him, you guys are a great group.” Abbey said. “No, are you kidding, tempers flare up every so often between us. We always work it out.” I explained not wanting to worry the couple.

“Are you guys ready for the show?” Danny asked beating his drum sticks on his knees. It was an interesting habit he had, he was always beating on something. “Yeah, are you guys?” I asked realizing this was their first headlining show. “We are so ready, It’s going to be so much fun.” Roxy said putting her magazine down entirely. “It’s going to rock, you guys better rest up. We’ll get out of your way.” Chris said pulling me out the door.

The show was awesome, it went off with out a hitch, which was unusual for the first show. I thought things would be different now that Abbey and Scott were a couple, but it wasn’t really. I mean Chris and Abbey still caused trouble and continued their pranks. Scott and I almost always found time for a game of basketball before each show. Roxy, Danny, and Ann didn’t seem to have too much trouble realizing that they were together, it just didn’t appear odd to any one, like we all knew it was going to happen all a long.

The press of course was not in the dark about the relationship for very long. It made headlines, but the fans didn’t seem so surprised. Lance finally calmed down and came to terms with the facts. People loved it, it was a true to heart love story and a match made in heaven.

The tour was half over and we were chilling out for a day in one of the bigger cities. We had arrived a day early on purpose. I was sitting on the stage talking to Scott. “So, is she the right girl?” I asked smiling at him. “Yeah, she is the right girl.” He had unable to hold back a smile. Abbey ran up to us, “Hey I’m going to go see the sights with the girls, you two behave.” She said kissing Scott softly on the lips. She smiled at me and then darted off again.

“So, how do you know? Tell me what I should look for?” I asked sincerely. I wanted to know I was sick of making the wrong choices. “Well, when I am with her I feel complete and I can see everything I’ll ever need there in her eyes.” He explained. I had to admit they sound like words from a song. “Wow, that’s some powerful stuff.” I said amazed. “Love is some powerful stuff, my friend.” He replied. I liked to watch the two of the together, it was just like that first time I had seen them on stage. They worked well together, they were perfect together. I had no idea that things were about to get interesting.
