Part 7
Kat got up early the next day. She called Mandy and told
her that she’d made plans to pick up the other man this morning.
“Great, I’ll get a hold of the others. We’ll plan
to meet some where. I’ll leave a message on your machine telling
you where we’re meeting.” Mandy said. “Great I have
to go. I’ll take Justin with me.” Kat said. “Okay
see you.’ Mandy said then hung up. Kat quickly got Justin ready
and then left.
It took a little longer than expected to get to Oleander but she had
called ahead and they had him ready for her. “We put him in the
back room.” The clerk said leading them back. When they entered
the room Joey was sitting on an old operating table they had back there.
He seemed calm. Justin looked at Joey and then Kat. Kat went up to Joey
and put her hand on his cheek. Justin felt himself starting to get jealous.
He wanted to run over and stop her from touching this other man but
her forced himself to stay where she had left him.
“If you don’t mind me asking why do you need two men?”
The clerk asked. The clerk nodded and the handed Kat the paperwork.
Kat quickly filled it out and then handed it back. Kat looked back a
Joey. His brown eyes just stared at her. He was bigger than Justin was.
As soon as Kat paid for him they headed for the car. Kat let Justin
sit in front with her so he wouldn’t feel left out.
Meanwhile the rest of them got together at Kim’s house, since
she had the biggest place. “Kat should be here soon. Mandy said.
“Maybe we should get started on teaching them to speak.”
Brandi said. “Okay, what do we do?” Kim asked. Mandy looked
at Lance. “Say my name is Lance.” She said putting her hand
on his face.
There was a knock on the door. “That must be Kat.” Kim said
answering the door. Sure enough Kat stepped in followed closely by the
two men. “You got him, way to go.” Brandi said. “Yeah,
but we’re all going to have to take turns caring for him.
Justin seems to be a little jealous.” Kat said.
Justin wrapped his arms around her then glared at Joey, who was just
walking around looking at everything. “He can stay here tonight;
I have an extra room.” Kim said. “I can watch him most days.”
Brandi said. “Great let’s get to work.” Mandy said.
“What were you doing?” Kat asked. “Teaching them to
talk.” Kim said. “Justin can talk, can’t you baby?”
Kat said. Justin let go of her and shook his head yes.
“Really, what can he say?” Kim asked. “His name.”
Kat said. “Justin.” Justin said. “It’s a start.”
Brandi said. “This group is going to rock.” Mandy said jumping
up and down. “Let’s get to work.” Kim said. They rounded
up the guys and set then around the table. “Brandi had printed
off some of the lyrics to songs they use to sing years ago. “We’ll
start with these words.” Brandi said handing out papers. They
all looked over them. “Okay how do we start?” Mandy asked.
They looked at Kat.
“You just repeat it until they get it.” Kat explained. JC
seemed tenser than the others. “Relax.” Kim said wrapping
her arms around him. JC leaned on her. There was no doubt that he cared
for her. They started with Mandy and Lance. Mandy repeated until Lance
got it. They went around in a circle. When they got to JC he froze.
“I know you can do this JC, you’re very smart.” Kim
said. JC looked at his hands then back up and Kim. He cleared his throat.
“I already know the words.” JC said. The girls nearly fell
over. “You can talk?” Mandy asked. JC just nodded. “You
could talk this whole time?” Kim asked. JC nodded again. “How?”
Kat asked. “I guess when they went to erase my memory it didn’t
work.” JC said. The girls looked at each other amazed. “You
won’t tell will you?” JC asked starting to worry. “No,
as long as you help us.” Brandi said. “I’ll try.”
JC said.
“So you know everything I’ve told you?” Kim asked.
JC nodded, “I can tell you about looking up at the stars from
earth.” Kim was flattered that he remembered. “No wander
he always did as you told him.” Kat said. “I didn’t
want to make anyone mad.” JC explained. “It must be odd
for you to see your friends like this.” Brandi said. “It
was at first.” JC said. “Then you can help us, I mean you
know a lot about them right?” Mandy asked. “Yeah, I’ve
known them forever.” JC said. “Let’s get to work again.”
Kim said.
They worked a while. JC even sang a few lines. “Are you mad that
I didn’t tell you?” JC asked Kim. “I’m not mad
I just wish you had told me sooner.” Kim said. “Sorry, I
wasn’t sure how you would react.” JC said. “We better
stop for the day. We’ll get together again and work on it some
more.” Brandi said. “Yeah, I think a few more time and they
might know the whole song.” Kat said.
“So Kim are you going to keep Joey?” Mandy asked. “Yeah
he can sleep here but I have to work in the morning.” Kim said.
“I can watch Joey.” JC said. “Or if you want I can
pick you two up and we can work some more on the song.” Brandi
said. “Whatever you want to do.” JC said. “Yeah, I’ll
pick you up.” Brandi said. “We’ll go then.”
Kat said. Justin smiled when he realized that they were leaving without
Joey. “I’ll see you tomorrow, JC.” Brandi said leaving.
“Okay, bye.” JC said.
Once everyone was gone JC turned to Kim. “I’ll go fix dinner.”
Kim said. When dinner was done she gave Joey a plate. “Let’s
go eat on the porch.” Kim said, Joey and JC followed her. Kim
sat there looking out across the sky. JC got really close and whispered
in her ear. “Do you want me to tell you about the stars?”
JC asked. Kim nodded. JC proceeded to tell her everything he remembered
about looking at the stars from earth. When he was done He kissed her
on the cheek and then left to put his plate away. Kim smiled. “Was
he always like that?” She asked Joey, who just smiled back at
her.
The next day Kat came out of her study. Justin was sitting on the couch.
“I fell like something is wrong.” Kat said. “Justin
ran over and gave her a hug. She patted him on the head. “You
are so sweet.” She said. Suddenly Kat heard something...
Kat sat straight up in bed. She looked at her alarm,
which was still ringing. She quickly turned it off and then looked at
the time. It was almost 7 a.m. She looked over at the Nsync poster,
which was hanging on the wall opposite her. She smiled and laid her
head back down on her pillow. “It was just a dream.” She
sighed then got up to go to school.
At school she ran into her friends. “You guys I have to tell you
about this weird dream I had last night.” Kat said. “Really,
what was it about?” Mandy asked. “It was about Nsync and
you guys were in it.” Kat explained. Kat told them about her dream
at lunch when she was done; she looked at her friends. “What do
you think it meant?” Kat asked. “I think it means you’re
obsessed.” Brandi laughed. “I want to know how it ended.”
Kim snapped. “Kim it was a dream I guess it can end however you
want it too.” Kat said. “I bet we got Nsync back together
all right, and they became a huge success like they are today.”
Mandy said. “I bet you’re right. Hot guys that sing will
always be a hit as long as there are young woman to adore them. It worked
in the past and I bet it’ll work in the future.” Kat said.
“That means you dream meant that our children are doomed to repeat
our obsessions.” Brandi said. They all laughed.
