Part 5
At around noon Brandi got a phone call. “Hi, Brandi.”
Kim said. “Hi, what’s up?” Brandi asked. “I
thought about what you said at the mall. Will you go with me to pick
out a guy?’ Kim asked. “Sure, I’ll be over to pick
you up in a few minutes.” Brandi said then hung up. She thought
for a minute. She talked to Mandy this morning and Mandy had told her
about what had happened to Kat.
Brandi took Chris and went across the hall to Mandy’s apartment.
She knocked a few times, but there was no answer. Brandi then went to
Kat’s apartment and Kat answered. “Hi, I need to run to
town would you watch Chris for me?” Brandi asked. “Yeah,
sure Justin might like the company.” Kat said. “Thank you.
I owe you one.” Brandi said. She gave Chris a kiss on the cheek
and then left. “Have fun.” Kat said holding Chris so he
wouldn’t leave with her. He was getting use to being left.
Kat took him inside. Justin looked at him. “Be nice.” Kat
told them both. Then went into her study. Soon Justin came in with his
leash. He held it out to Kat. “Not right now, I’m busy.”
Kat said pushing it away. Justin pulled it close and looked at it. His
eyes started to water and his bottom lip quivered slightly. He’d
been there 3 days and wanted to go out.
Kat looked up at him. “I hate it when you do that.” Kat
said putting her things away. Justin knew she could never say no when
he did that. Chris was hiding in the doorway. “You can come too.”
Kat said as she took the leash from Justin and walked past Chris. Justin
followed her. Justin and Chris gathered around the door while she got
ready. “You have to put this on.” Kat said holding out the
leash. Justin stood still while she put it on. “You too, if I
lose you Brandi would kill me.” Kat said fixing Chris’ leash.
As they stepped into the hallway they saw Mandy coming their way. “What
are you doing with Chris?” Mandy asked. “Brandi had to leave.
We‘re going down to the indoor park. Do you want to come?”
Kat asked. “Sure, Lance would like that.” Mandy looking
at the blonde beside her.
Meanwhile across town. Brandi and Kim had just arrived at the place.
‘This is a bad idea, let’s just go home.” Kim said.
“No, your getting a guy and that’ that.” Brandi said.
“Can I help you?” The clerk asked. “She’s looking
for a guy.” Brandi said before Kim could talk her way out of it.
“Okay, what are you looking for in a guy?” The clerk asked.
“Well, I work a lot so he has to be good at staying home alone
or with some one else.” Kim explained. “Okay anything else?”
She asked. “He has to be really cute.” Brandi added. “Yeah,
I guess.’ Kim said not sure what she was getting into.
The clerk took them down a few rows of boxes. They were about to the
end of the 3rd one when one man caught Kim’s eye. She didn’t
know why he got her attention. He was just sitting in his box watching
people go by. “That one.” Kim said pointing to him. “Are
you sure?” Brandi asked. “Yes, He’s the one that I
want.” Kim said very sure of herself. “He’s a good
one, real clam and mellow.” The clerk said.
They went over to him. He looked at them; his blue eyes just shined
like stars. Kim found herself falling deeply in love with him already.
He was thin, but he still looked good. “Shall I ring him up?’
The clerk asked. ‘Yeah.” Kim said with a smile. The clerk
left to get the paper work. “Don’t you want something with
some meat on him?” Brandi asked. “Nope, I want him. I can
always fatten him up.’ Kim said still in awe by the man.
When the clerk cam back Kim signed some papers. “I think you and
JC will get along just fine together.” The clerk said handing
Kim the paper work she needed. “I hope so.” Kim said. The
clerk got JC ready. JC was taller than Kim was, mostly because Kim was
short. Even with all that was going on JC still seemed clam.
The clerk handed Kim the cord. Kim paid her and then grabbed JC’s
hand before leaving. “You know they give you the cord so you can
pull him around, you don’t need to hold his hand.” Brandi
said. “But I’d rather hold his hand than pull him around
like a puppy.” Kim replied. Brandi just nodded.
Back at the apartments Kat and Mandy were sitting on a bench watching
the guys try to play basketball. “Lance isn’t very good.”
Mandy said. “At least he is trying.” Kat said. “At
least they’re getting along.” Mandy added. “Yeah,
I wander if Brandi is back yet?” Kat asked. “Her quickly
trips to town are never quick.” Mandy said.
Upstairs Brandi was about to knock on Kat’s door when she saw
the note Kat had left. It said, “Brandi, I took Justin and Chris
down to the park. I don’t know when we will be back.” Brandi
smiled and then went into her apartment. She set down the bags of cloths,
that she had bought when they went to the mall after getting JC.
She then headed down to the park and quickly found Kat and Mandy. “You
found us.” Kat said. “Yeah, where is Chris?” Brandi
asked. Kat pointed over to the basket ball court. Mandy and Kat made
room for Brandi on the bench. They sat there and talked for about an
hour.
“We’d better get home.” Mandy said finally. “Yeah,
I have work to do. Hopefully Justin will come with out a fight.”
Kat said as they made their way to them. Mandy took the ball away from
Lance. Lance held out his hands for her to give it back. “No,
time to go.’ Mandy said setting the ball on the ground and taking
his hand. Lance pouted but did as he was told.
“Come on Justin.” Kat said. Justin shook his head no. “That’s
odd, I didn’t think he knew what that meant.” Brandi said.
“OH, please as much as I’ve done it, he must have picked
it up.” Kat said taking his hand. Justin shook his head no again.
Kat pulled out a piece of candy. Justin lunged for it. “Come on.”
Kat said pulling him. He slowly gave in so Kat would give him the candy,
which made him happy.
Chris hugged Brandi. He had thought he had been given away again. “I
missed you too.” Brandi said as he held her tight. “Let's
go home.” Brandi added when he finally let go. Chris smiled and
then followed her back.
The next morning Kim woke with a start. She realized JC wasn’t
in her bed any more. She got up and walked out into the living room
and found him sitting on the couch watching TV. Kim smiled at him. “I’ll
fix us some breakfast.” Kim said walking into the kitchen.
She watched him as she worked. He was everything she ever wanted in
a man. When breakfast was ready she set the table. JC came and sat down
with out being called, this impressed Kim. He ate well when he was done
he took his plate and put it in the sink. Kim was slowly finding more
and more things to like about him.
Kim went out on her porch, from there she had a clear view of the open
space around her. It amazed her everyday to see it. She often wandered
what it was like back in her mother’s time. Viewing the starts
at night from the green plant they had left behind for some reason.
Kim smiled when she felt JC at her side. He took her hand and rubbed
it gently. He felt she was deep in thought and couldn’t help but
wander what she was thinking about.
“You’ve seen what my mother saw. I only wish you could tell
me.” Kim said. JC just smiled and then looked up into the dark
sky. Kim had her own house. She lived alone here in the space house
she’d bought from inheritance she was left when her mother died.
She had been lonely but now that JC was here the feeling was fading.
Kim turned to him. He was still looking up. She smiled and then started
to tickle him. He laughed then started to tickle her back. They both
fell to the floor. They rolled around laughing and tickling. When they
stopped JC was on top of her. He smiled lovingly and then got up. He
offered her his hand and then pulled her up. The phone rang. Kim went
and answered it.
When she came back she didn’t seem happy. “I have to work
now.” Kim said. JC’s smiled faded. “I’m sorry,
you be good. I’ll only be back in a few hours.” Kim added
kissing him on the forehead. She smiled then left.
Mandy woke up to a strange sound. She got up to see what it was. She
found Lance sitting next to a broken mirror holding his hand. He was
crying, that’s what Mandy heard. She went up to him and he buried
his face in her shoulder and cried harder. “It’s okay, sweetie
let me see.” Mandy said. Lance opened his hand to reveal the large
cut across his palm.
“That’s bad. Wait here I’ll call a doctor.”
Mandy said getting up and getting the phone. She talked for a few minutes
then went back over to Lance. She wrapped a towel around his hand. “Come
on hun, we’re going to take you to see the doctor.” Mandy
said pulling him to his feet. She put him in the car and then drove
to the doctor.
They sat in the waiting room for about 15 minutes before the doctor
could see them. A nurse took them into the back and had Lance sit on
a table. “The doctor will be here soon.” The nurse said
and then left. “I’m doctor Parks.” A red head said
as she came in. “Tell me what happened.” She added. “I
don’t know what happened, I woke up and he was crying.”
Mandy said. The doctor opened Lance’s hand, which he had been
clenching in pain. “It looks like there’s same glass or
something in there.” The doctor said. “There was a broken
mirror next to hit.” Mandy said.
“Okay, I don’t think it did too much damage. We’ll
just take the pieces out and clean it up real well. You’ll have
to change the bandage every so often, but it should heal in a few weeks.”
The doctor said. She reached into a drawer and got tweezers out. Lance
pulled his hand away when she started to hurt. “You have to be
still.” The doctor said tightening her grip. Lance whined and
cried while she finished.
There that wasn’t so hard, now you can get all better.”
Mandy said hugging him. The doctor wrapped his hand and gave Mandy new
bandages to use later. “You can pay out front. If it doesn’t
heal in a few weeks than bring him back in.” the doctor said.
Mandy shook her hand then thanked her.
When they got home Mandy laid Lance down on the couch and fixed him
soup. “You rest up sweetie.” Mandy said. She then went off
to work on some other things.
