Part 3

Morning came and but when it came time for the cleaning people to clean the library they were in for a grouse surprise. Upon opening the huge wooden doors they where greeted with the sight of poor Lance still laying on the table, still tied and gagged. But now wrapped around his head where his eye should be was white gauss. The table dripping with blood.

Linda was called to investigate. To her surprise when the drug wore off Lance was still alive. Students were ordered to stay way from the library. As soon as Lance came to Linda untied him. He went to put his hands on his eyes but Linda stopped him. “No, Lance” She said. Grabbing his hands. “But why not. Why can’t I see?” He asked. “Lance, they’re not there.” Linda said. “What? I don’t understand?” Lance asked. “I was hoping you would know.” Linda said. “What about Max?” Lance asked.

“Max is dead!” Linda said, “ I am going to get you to a doctor and when you are up to it I need to know what happened here last night.”

Lance was scared with out his eyes he felt so alone. Linda helped him to the ambulance and he was rushed to the hospital the same one as Justin. But Linda refrained from telling Lance about Justin for fear he would freak out. At the hospital Lance was checked. It seemed who ever had done this knew what they were doing. For every cut was clean, every stitch was perfect. There were no fingerprints to be found, not on Lance or Max. This event had been planned carefully. The attacker left no sign of her presence. Max most likely never saw her until it was too late.

She was sly, Leaving nothing to go by, only an innocent victim.

“Mr. Chasez, you’re up.” The director said. JC was sitting off to the side a half asleep. Joey tapped he and he came to. “What?” JC asked still a little out of it. “You’re on dude.” Joey said pointing to the stage. “Oh, I’m sorry JC said taking his place with the others. “It’s okay but let’s just hurry and do this already.” The director said shaking his head.

JC came into work that day only to find he had a new patent. Upon entering Lance’s room he knocked softly on the door. “Who is it?” Lance asked. “My name is JC and I brought you something to eat.” JC replied. “Very well then come in.” Lance said sitting up in his bed. JC sat the tray on a small table next to the bed. JC studied Lance for a minute. “If you don’t mind, What happened to you?” JC asked. Lance placed one hand softly on his face felling the gauss and then said, “I was attacked last night in the library.”

“Attacked?” JC asked. “Yes! My friend Max, the caretaker, was killed.” Lance replied. This seemed all too familiar to JC. “Was this attacker wearing a black cloak?” JC asked. “Why yes! How do you know?” Lance asked. JC hesitated to go on. Why hadn’t they told him about Justin? But Lance needed to know, but not right now.

“Lucky guess? Do you need help eating?” JC asked as if to change the subject. “I think so, but I don’t know I’ve never been blind before.” Lance said. “I will help you.” JC said taking the tray and setting it on Lance’s lap. JC slowly brought spoonfuls of food to Lance’s mouth. Lance could not see it and would often miss his mouth.

It was about 3 o’clock and Chris would be coming to see Justin. JC had to tell Chris about Lance and maybe even tell Lance about Justin. “I have to go. I’ll be right back.” JC said handing the spoon to Lance, “Keep trying, I’ll only be a minute.”

Chris got ready off to the side for when he had to go on. Justin slipped into his bed and ran his hand trough his hair. “Ready everyone?” The director asked. “Yeah.” They all said. “Great now action.” The director yelled.

JC left and went right for Justin’s room. Justin was sitting on his bed eating his lunch. Chris was not there yet so JC sat down because he knew Chris would show up soon. “How are you doing?” JC asked.

Justin gave JC a shrug. About 8 minutes passed when Chris came hopping in.
“JC what are you doing here?” Chris asked surprised to see JC not doing his rounds. “There is something I need to show you.” JC said getting up from his seat. “What?” Chris asked. “ Need to see you in the hall.” JC said nodding toward Justin. Justin got the point and went about his work while Chris and JC went into the hall.

Once in the hall JC led Chris back down by Lance’s room. “Where are we going?” Chris asked being drug down the hall. “There is someone you need to meet.” JC said stopping at Lance’s door. Chris peered inside; Lance was trying disparity to feed himself but could not seem to find his mouth. “You brought me to see a guy that can’t even feed himself, how nice!” Chris said sarcastically. “NO!” JC yelled, “anything look at all familiar to you?”

“No, why?” Chris asked seeming somewhat confused. “His name is Lance and guess what happened to his eyes?” JC said. “I have no clue?” Chris said. “Someone removed them, someone wearing a black cloak. Ring a bell?” JC asked. “You don’t think” Chris stuttered. JC just shook his head yes. “But how?” Chris asked. “I don’t know.” JC said. “Does Justin know?” Chris asked. “No I haven’t told him yet. I thought it would be too much for him.” JC said. “He has a right to know.” Chris said.

“Who has a right to know?” Lance asked. Chris and JC hadn’t realized how loud they had been talking. “Umm, Lance, there’s something I didn’t tell you.” JC said leading Chris into the room. “Like what?” Lance asked. “Well you see when I guessed the attacker was wearing a black cloak,” JC stopped. “I remember.” Lance said. “I knew that because you aren’t the first victim.” JC said. “WHAT?” Lance yelled. “You see there was one before you and this is his friend.” JC said grabbing Chris’s arm. “Hi!” Chris said. “What, do you mean another victim?” Lance asked.

“His name is Justin.” Chris said. “Were his eyes removed too?” Lance asked. “No, his voice box was.” Chris replied. Moving in to get a better look. “Why didn’t anyone tell me?” Lance asked. “They taught it would stress you out to find out there was another victim.” JC said.

“I want to meet him.” Lance said. “Sure why not?” Chris said. “But you do realize he can’t talk and we will have to talk for him.” JC asked. “I under stand, I just want to see what horror he has gone through as he will want to see what I have gone through. There I so much we have in common now.” Lance said. “Very well I well go get him.” Chris said leaving the room.

Chris walked calmly down the hall back to Justin’s room. Justin was still sitting on his bed when Chris walked in. “Justin!” Chris said, “There is someone I want you to meet.”

Justin looked at him in confusion. But slowly got up and followed his friend into the hall. “Justin, there was another attack last night.” Chris said leading Justin down the hall. Justin stopped and refused to go on. “Justin come on. His name is Lance, and he wants to see you. Well maybe not see you but he does want to meet you.” Chris said grabbing his arm and pulling him the rest of the way, stopping only at Lance’s door.

“Justin you have to go in on your own. I will not drag you in there.” Chris said. Justin was intrigued now and wanted to see what this poor guy had gone throw. So with that Justin slowly opened the door. Lance was still sitting up right in his bed; JC sat beside him talking.

JC quickly noticed Justin and got to his feet. “He’s here.” JC whispered to Lance. Justin could not help but look at Lance or the white gauss around his head. Chris came in too. “Come here.” Lance said, “I want to get a better picture of you in my mind.”

With that Justin walked calmly to his bedside. Lance placed his hand softy on his face. Moving them slowly to build a picture in his mind of what he looked like. That’s when he hit the gauss around his neck. “She really did remove your voice box!” Lance said. Justin began to mouth the words “she”. That word was odd. Chris saw this and then asked, “What she?”

“The attacker it’s female.” Lance said. “How do you know that?” JC asked. “I saw her up close when I was lying on the table.” Lance replied. “What did she look like?” Chris asked. “I don’t really know. I could only make out the lips and eyes because of the cloak.” Lance replied, “but I could tell it was a woman.”
“She clearly has no heart.” JC said. Justin was shocked. He had never thought it could have been a woman. The figure had been so strong, but it was clear to him. The same person had attacked them. Her work was neat and clean. But why only remove things why not just kill them? Why had she let them live? These questions rang in Justin’s head.

“I have an idea!” JC said, “Why not move Justin in here. That way if she comes back they won’t be alone.”

Lance and Justin were all for it. They did not want to be alone any more than they had to, and at least if they stuck together they could learn more about each other and maybe even find a link between them so they could find out who the next victim would be. With that Justin was moved in right away. Even though Lance could not read Justin’s lips, there for not know what he was saying, they wanted to share stories. With JC to translate Justin’s words Lance heard of Justin’s encounter with her and was shocked to hear he didn’t even get a chance to see her face. Yet she seemed to toy with Lance.

It began to get late, and they still did not know what they had in common. There for could not save someone from his or her fate. They knew she planned to attack again tonight. It was like she was on a schedule. And she had every intent to meet it. But it seemed there was nothing they could do. The cops were working too slow and would never keep up with her at this rate.

“You two do not worry. Try to get some sleep. There is nothing we can do right now, and you never know she may take a brake for one night.” JC said as he got ready to leave. It was only 10 o’clock but he had been up late last night and needed to go home early. Justin was not worried so much as Lance was there, at least he wasn’t alone. But he felt sorry for Lance. Lance was going to be a writer, but now he could not see and could not write.

But as JC turned off the light, Justin laid his head down on his pillow, but he did not sleep only think of what horror lie ahead. Who would she hurt tonight? Who would lie bleeding till morning? But as Justin pondered these things, she had already picked the luck victim.

“I’m impressed you made a whole scene with out a mess up.” The director said. “We’re getting better.” JC said. “Joey you’re up.” The director said. He looked over to see Joey flirting with Courtney again. His hand was rubbing her knee. “You too Courtney.” The director said and little louder. Courtney looked over at him and then at Joey before pushing away from Joey and taking her place on the set. Joey sat confused for a minute and then followed her.
